Jersey Cows

Jersey is a breed of small dairy cattle. Originally bred in the Channel Island of Jersey, the breed is popular for the high butterfat content of its milk and the lower maintenance costs attending its lower bodyweight, as well as its genial disposition. The Jersey is a British breed of small dairy cattle from Jersey, in the British Channel Islands. It is one of three Channel Island cattle breeds, the others being the Alderney – now extinct – and the Guernsey. It is highly productive – cows may give over 10 times their own weight in milk per lactation; the milk is high in butterfat and has a characteristic yellowish tinge. The Jersey adapts well to various climates and environments, and unlike many breeds originating in temperate climates, these cows can tolerate heat very well. It has been exported to many countries of the world; in some of them, including Denmark, France, New Zealand, and the United States, it has developed into an independent breed.

Holstein Friesian Cows

Holstein Friesians are a breed of dairy cattle originating from the Dutch provinces of North Holland, Friesland. Also, Schleswig-Holstein in Northern Germany and Jutland. Breeders imported specialized dairy Holsteins from the United States to cross with the European black and whites. For the reason that, “Holstein” is used to describing North or South American stock and its use in Europe, particularly in the North. While “Friesian” denotes animals of traditional European ancestry. It bred for both dairy and beef use. Crosses between the two are described by the term “Holstein-Friesian”. Most importantly, Holstein Friesian cows are known as the world’s highest-production dairy animal. These cattle are believed to have been selected for dairy qualities for about 2,000 years. Main characteristics are; Cow produce calf for the first time at the age of 2.5 years. Produce a calf every year. A cow produces about 40 kg of milk daily and 4500-9000 kg annually. The calf weighs about 30-40 kg when they born. Milk of Holstein Friesian contains 3.5 % fat.
